Arawa Open Marathon Weekend - Long Course (Day 2)

With interest in Marathon paddling growing again nationally, and Arawa holding a membership base of some of the best marathon paddlers in the country, it was about time some more marathon events popped up on the calendar!

Introducing the Arawa Marathon Weekend!

• Friday 12th January, Short Course - K1/Multisport
• Saturday 13th January, Long Course - K1/Multisport
• Sunday 14th January, Long Course - K2/Doubles

While this was intended to be a tester for a push at holding Marathon Nationals in Christchurch during May 2024, Jordan is moving to Australia after this event and won't be able to organise Nationals. With the foundation set (assuming this is a success), hopefully someone will step up and organise a follow on event.

Day 2, Long Course:

Yesterday was the warm up which favoured the sprinters, today is the main event and it's all about the endurance paddlers. The course involves a 4km main lap including a 100m portage, and a 700m short lap. The distances each age group will do is covered below. Portages are optional for multisport boats however to be eligible for place prizes you must complete them. Specific course details will be sent out just before the event.

Registration: 9am - 9:30am

Briefing: 9:40am

Race times: 

• Mass start 10am

Prizegiving will be held at the conclusion of racing with medals up for grabs for category winners

Entry fees:

• $20 (Arawa Club Members)
• $25 (Non-club members)

Payment details will be provided in an entry confirmation email. Entry covers use of club facilities (toilets/showers) for non-club members. All proceeds from the event will go towards the Junior Development Fund supporting Arawa Canoe Club Juniors.

• 24.7km (6x lap + 1x short, 6x portage) - Open Male
