When the Hampshire Hoppit 2020 was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were disappointed, of course. After the announcement, there was a social media conversation to suggest that a virtual Hoppit might be appreciated, with an official Hoppit medal for successfully running a marathon or half marathon distance, at a date (or close to) when the Hoppit would have been happening if it hadn’t have been cancelled. So here it is! Our Virtual Hoppit 2020.
Every recorded virtual finisher will receive the official Hampshire Hoppit 2020 medal in the post. Please ensure that you enter your address details correctly.
Your run must be completed in the Hoppit week, i.e. on any day between 14-21 June 2020. In a nod to the Hoppit, we encourage you to include some trails in your route, or some parkland, if at all possible. Please keep to the Government’s social distancing and exercise rules as they apply in that week of June. We hope that you can complete your run in a single attempt, however, if Government rules dictate a reduced period for exercise that means that you must split your attempt across multiple days, then so be it. E.g. the marathon as 6-7 miles per day over 4 days.
As participants start to self-report their results, the results page on the Webscorer website will be updated automatically. The results will be shown as "Preliminary" until the Hoppit team mark the results as "Final". Runners can continue to submit their results until 24th June at 2pm. This is an important deadline! At this point the virtual race will be deemed complete, and I will mark the results as “Final”. Results will be shown by category (Senior, 40, 50, 60+); no winner prizes I’m afraid, only the kudos of achieving a great result against your peers!
A voluntary contribution to our nominated charity, the Hampshire & Isle Of Wight Air Ambulance, is available at registration. Charity incomes are struggling at the moment, so any contribution will be greatly appreciated.
