The Event

This event runs in conjunction with the Annual Mathews Market Days on the 2nd weekend of September (weekend after Labor Day). Our 2018 event includes options of a 5k distance OR 1m Fun Run, both on a new course (sidewalks & trails!) and a sweet post-race raffle. Our Race Giveaway Item (secret!) is guaranteed for the first 60 paid registrants (more may be available race day on a first come, first serve basis).

The Schedule

Packet Pickup will be open on Friday Sep 7th at the YMCA facility on Cricket Hill Road (new facility!!) between 4-6pm. Race day registration & packet pickup on Saturday Sep 8th will start at 6:45am and be open thru 7:20am only - we encourage pre-registration, as the cost for race day sign up increases (5k goes from $30 to $35 on 8th; the 1m Fun Run is always FREE).

The 5k race begins at 7:30am and the 1m Fun Run starts at 7:35am. The post-race awards and raffle will be held between 8:30-9:00am, approximately - allowing for all participants to finish.

The Cause

The Mathews Family YMCA, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is the event host. 100% of the race proceeds go to the YMCA, which is dedicated to promoting healthy spirit, mind, and body for all (peninsulaymca.org)!

The Courses

As promised - and based on feedback - we've got a new course for the races. Starting at the Market Days festival location on Brickbat Road in Mathews Historic Courthouse, the 5k runs on sidewalks, to a shaded nature trail, to a school track, and returns on sidewalks. The 1 mile course is primarily sidewalks.

Awards & Raffle

Awards are presented to top Male & Female 5k finishers, and to the top 3 finishers in 5k age groups (12-under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+). All 1m and 5k participants will be in the drawing for raffle prizes (the homemade desserts are back again this year). This will be a day you won't forget and will want to enjoy year after year!
