August 29th Team Circuit Race
Format/rules:
· The format for this race is a point based 60-minute team circuit race. Each team will consist of various riders across different categories and will be as balanced as possible with other teams. (How teams are selected will be explained later)
· The race will start with each team selecting 2 riders to begin first. After the first lap, 1 rider from each team will join the other 2 on the course for a total of 3 riders per team. The rules are that each team, after the first lap, must always have 3 riders on the course (exceptions will be made for mechanicals, explained later).
· There will be a neutral start/stop area marked by cones where riders finishing their laps can decelerate safely and the next rider(s) joining the race can accelerate safely. Each new rider to join the race must finish at least 2 laps before they can exit the race. There is no limit to how many laps a rider can complete during the time limit of the race however the number of riders on course per team must equal 3.
· Scoring is only accomplished when the last rider on course from each team crosses the lap marker line. This is to encourage teamwork and strategy.
Team composition:
Each team will consist of various riders across different categories and will be selected by the organizers to ensure the greatest amount of balance. When participants sign up, they will be assigned points based on the following criteria:
1 pt – Cat A, under 30 years old
2 pt – Cat B, Woman, 30-49 years
3 pt – Cat C, 50+ years
Points are additive for each rider. For example, if you are a 55-year-old Cat C racer then you have a point value of 3+3 for 6 points total. A Cat B Woman racer that is 31 years old is 2+2+2 for a total of 6 points.
After each racer has been assigned their appropriate points, the race organizers will assign racers to teams based on an inverse of the point system above. Each team should have close to the same “total” points available to ensure fairness.
The number of teams will be decided by the number of participants. Ideally, each team will have no fewer than 4 riders and no more than 6.
Scoring:
Scoring only occurs when the last rider on course for each team crosses the lap marker line to encourage teamwork. No extra points are awarded for a team member lapping their teammates.
Each team will be awarded the total number of points per rider after each lap is complete. The team that has the most points, which may not equate to the most laps, at the end of the 60 minutes of racing will be awarded the win.
Each team will be allowed 1 free lap in the event of a mechanical where they may complete the lap with less than 3 riders on the course. If a mechanical occurs, the remaining riders may complete the lap and have a new rider(s) join them at the neutral start/stop area and the points for the finishing rider(s) will be recorded, not including the rider(s) with the mechanical.
REMEMBER:
This race is for fun and to celebrate the awesome crit season we had this year. Please don’t take it too seriously and enjoy yourself. We want to encourage each other and have fun. Teamwork is key so let’s be supportive of one another and have a blast!
End of Season After Party
Join us at 7:30pm after the race for a beverage and food!
Each registration (regular $15 fee) will come with a drink ticket for the end of season after party at Tin Can Alley hosted by Boy House Racing!
