Event notes
Grade 1 – 2 whitewater skills weekend 26 - 27 March 2022

The skills weekend is looking viable so if you are interested we encourage you to register via the link below. The weekend is aimed at introducing people to grade 1 - 2 whitewater with a primary focus on improving paddling skills and understanding how to use the water. There will also be some river reading and safety guidance given and a paddling equipment presentation. Your paddling experience should have at least included moving water possibly up to easy grade 1.

We will now be limiting the number of participants to 8 for this weekend. At present we plan to hold it on a section of the Macquarie River near Bruinbun with camping by the river. This is north of Bathurst and west of Sofala on the Bridle track. If water levels require change we might have to move to the Childowlah or Canberra areas on the Murrumbidgee River. There will be a fee of $30/participant to help cover club costs.

There are a few essential items for you as a participant:
• We will not be practicing wet exits due to time constraints and water temperature. You must have done two (2) preferably three (3) wet exits from a kayak starting with the sprayskirt on. You MUST be comfortable with wet exiting and be able to swim. If you have not completed this requirement or are not confident with this then this weekend is not for you.
• Your paddling experience should have at least included moving water possibly up to easy grade 1
• Those who cannot roll and end up capsizing will have to wet exit and swim. We will help you get to the bank.
• There are a limited number of club kayaks available plus a few privately owned kayaks. If you have or can borrow a whitewater kayak that fits you, is properly fitted out with backrest and feet support and correctly fitting sprayskirt then please bring it with you. Ditto for a paddle. Some club sprayskirts, buoyancy vests and helmets are available.
