Although it was pouring with rain in downtown Nanaimo, up on the Nanaimo River Road it was as dry as a bone, with a light westerly breeze making for near perfect conditions. Two youth riders did the 20km distance, both posting personal bests. In the men's 40 km event, fixie exponent Patrick Burnham, with his bike equipped with new aero bars, won with a personal best of 1h 05' 17". Matt Evans and Michael Gill also beat their previous best times, Michael by just a second.
