VCM was a half marathon course, so had to do it twice. Lots of points of runner interference on the 2nd lap, not to mention the broken brake cable for the last 5kms. Also, lots of runner traffic during the last 5kms on the bicycle path to the finish. That said, finished the race without any other incident and came in under the Boston qualifying requirement of 2hr30min.Worked with the Green Mountain Bicycle Club - Jim Stover and David Rath - for the preview ride and with Jim for the marathon ride. Also joined with another bike volunteer for the 2nd lap.
First Defi. RR avg speed: 28.4 kph over 38.8kms; completed 9 of 11 lap race; course w. 13 turns. We were a group of 4 riders - RD, Kevin, Brent, Roger - behind 3 much faster riders. Good development regarding race strategy and drafting technique working with Kevin. Rejoined group in lap 7 with encouragement from Blaine to 'close the gap' and then finished ahead of Brent in a sprint finish.
First Defi. ITT avg speed: 29.5kph over 17.6kms; 4 lap TT; course w. 13 turns. Reasonable representation of Winter training. Previous PB was at an OBC TT in August 2021 - 30.5 kph on an out and back course versus a 4 laps on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
Completed 6 laps or ~36.7kms in ~1:53:00 for an average speed of 19.5kph when race closed. Race was on another hilly course with 8 turns in Saint-Georges. Average speed was 70.7% of top finisher Mark Ledo with an average speed of 27.56kph over 48.8kms, an improvement over the 68.6% in the ITT. Results not entirely comparable since it is comparing results of 6 laps agains 8 laps for Ledo.
Average speed 22.73kph over 16km. The TT course at Saint-Prosper is very hilly. Missed the final turn and had to double back. Average speed relative to top finisher at 68.6%, much slower than relative speed of about 78% at 2021 OBC TT (31.5kph) versus MH4 National A standard (40.2kph).Charles Moreau, Paralympian, recently returned from 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games finished 1st in 28:59.07 at an average speed of 33.12kph.
