Ascot Kayaking Club JOHN SIMS RACE 2021
Location: Ascot Kayak Club Fauntleroy Avenue Ascot WA
Covid Plan
As at 6pm Saturday the 1st, the race is on with some restrictions.
Masks must be worn when not racing.
Food will be prepackaged to reduce queueing
Presentations and prize draws will be in two or three groups as categories finish.
Don’t forget to use the covid safe app
Race briefing will be shortened please read notes below

Race Day Schedule:
Main & Short course check-in 7.00 to 7.45, Briefing 8.00, Race Start 8.30
Guppies check-in 7.00 to 7.45 Briefing 8.15, Start at 8.45
Race categories are constituted on age group/boat/gender with generally three racers required to make a category.

Course Details:
Full course: 11.5km, AKC to Barkers Bridge and return,
Short Course: 8km, AKC to Guildford Bridge and return,
Guppies: 3.5km, Circuit close to Club

Safety

Be aware of the outriggers who will be racing with us. They need a bit more room.
Be aware of others on the water – power boats, rowers etc
Don’t interfere with other paddlers who are racing.
Warren Southwell will be following in a ski as a final sweep. But it also important that you look out for each other – if you assist someone you may be able to have time deducted for stopping to help. You have an obligation to assist a paddler in trouble.

Pass on your right when approaching oncoming paddlers.

We are running the Guppies at the same time. They should finish before the seniors but just in case watch out for them near the finish line.

Watch out for fishing lines
Sun protection, adequate hydration
First aid and defibrillator unit is available.
Life jackets are recommended
