Max Greive was a founding member and a driving force in setting up the Club in the early 90s. He was a great character and a tough competitor – a legend in triathlon circles. Max tragically died of cancer at the age of 55 and we remember him through this memorial run.

The annual NCTC Max Greive Memorial Run has become a popular fixture on the club calendar with participation in the 10km event being one of the qualifying criteria for the CTOY Award (Club Triathlete of the Year).

Entry is by means of as many gold coins as you wish to give for both runners and walkers, with all proceeds donated to the Cancer Council of Australia. True to Max’s own competitive spirit a fierce competition usually develops for the winner’s trophy– the “BIG CHAIN RING”, for both men and women. A 5km version of the event caters for social entrants. The event is usually held in November, with the start and finish at the Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club.
