This is our rescheduled race from June and will be a great way to wind up the 2025 sledding season.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧:

  • The King's Birthday long weekend.
  • Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th and Monday 29th of September
  • Saturday / Sunday = night/morning STANDARD SPRINT race
  • Monday = morning RELAY. Team and Solo.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞:

Our race location is Jarrahwood State Forest, approximately 30 minutes from Busselton.

If you have attended a WASSA Jarrahwood race this year, we are camping in the same place, on the air strip, but our racetracks are different.

You will be camping and will require your own camping gear and will need to provide your own meals. We are camping in the bush, so you need to be as self-sufficient as possible. Portaloos will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭:

For one weekend entry fee you can enter as many heats as you like (pending your eligibility for classes).

Line Out Podcast (Jamelia and Narelle) will be doing a SAUSAGE SIZZLE for lunch on Sunday.

We will also be having a fun Sunday afternoon activity, an afternoon tea, and an auction.

𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬:

  • 4 and 3-dog (run together) - approximately 5.5 km
  • 2-dog scooter - approximately 3.5-4 km
  • Bikejor (1 dog only and for experienced mushers only - approximately 3.5-4 km
  • 1-dog - approximately 2.5-3 km
  • 2-dog non-competitive and 2-dog veteran (run together) - approximately 2.5 km
  • 1-dog non-competitive, 1-dog veteran, Junior and Novice (all run together) - approximately 2.5 km
  • Canicross - approximately 2.5 km
  • Pee Wee (children 9 years and younger)

Class notes:

  • Bikejor is the ONLY class permitted to use a bike. You are not permitted to use a bike in the non-competitive “touring” classes. (This is different to WASSA.)
  • Your dog may only enter one class per day, plus canicross.
  • 1 and 2-dog veteran classes are for DOGS aged 7 or older.
  • Non-competitive classes mean ‘touring’ classes.
  • Junior class, young people aged 10-16.
  • Senior classes: 14 years +

𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲:

On Monday, we will hold 2 relay events.

One will be the SOLO relay, where one musher completes each leg of the relay (cani, scooter and bike – in that order) with 3 different dogs. SOLO relay entrants must be experienced mushers.

The TEAM relay consists of 3 mushers, each with their own dog completing one leg each. Novice and Junior mushers may compete in either scooter or canicross legs. Running West will put the teams together – you just need to nominate which leg/s you are willing to do.

𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬

Running West Sled Dog Club is affiliated with the Australian Federation of Sleddog Sports (AFSS) and races under AFSS rules. You must comply with the rules, including the dog vaccination policy. A copy of the rules and vaccination statement can be found at https://www.sleddogsports.com.au/

All non-AFSS members must pay a $10 insurance fee to cover them as a casual member for the weekend. This will be the case for each race.

Additional Notes:

We understand that not everyone gets a long weekend, so if you can only attend the sprint event or the relay event, that is fine; you can still enter.

Fees are for mushers only. You will need to add toilet fees per person, including non-racers attending with you. Pee Wees are free but have a spot on the entry form.

If you have any questions about your eligibility for classes, how the relay works, how to enter, or ANYTHING else, please ask. Contact info@runningwestsdc.net
