WELCOME TO 2025 CITY LIGHTS 30km Day/Night race - and this year, CITY LITE 17km race

NOTE The race can see rough conditions. Paddlers are recommended to use skis rather than kayaks 

ALL RACERS MUST REGISTER and pay [BOTH/ALL TEAM MEMBERS] 

Live Music for everyone at the finish line, food for anyone who would like [a tasty roast meat roll and salads from the Swan Café]. Bring the family for support and stay to enjoy the atmosphere and share your race story. Food must be preordered at registration. To reduce waste please bring your own plates if possible. 

 

Prize for the most brightly dressed paddler - go crazy!

FULL COURSE (CITY LIGHTS)

  • Start All competitors: Riverton Bridge Park. 
  • Compulsory portage & light check at Narrows 
  • Paticipants may make a long portage to the east side of the Narrows bridge to avoid the rough water under the bridge.  Must carry your own boat. For relays both boats must be present at the portage entry.
  • Finish: Ascot Kayak Club

 

SHORT COURSE (CITY LITE)

  • Start : Point Belches (East side of Narrows bridge)
  • Finish: Ascot Kayak Club

 

RACER NOTES 

  • Must race in pairs or team boats, no solo, double skis/kayaks recommended
  • Relay option available (2 teams of 2) change at Narrows (Full course only) 
  • Car shuffle required between Riverton and Ascot (Narrows and Ascot for the short course)

 

SAFETY EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS 

Half of the Full course race happens after dark - Short course is mostly in the dark. ALL COMPETITORS TO WEAR or HAVE (To be checked at registration) : 

  • 360degree white light - must comply to safety regulations.  No lights are provided this year.  The following lights are recommended and cost about $35

  • Phone (in waterproof bag if you like your phone)
  • Enough boat buoyancy - this will be checked for kayaks at registration
  • Lifejackets must be worn
  • Torch - one per boat in case of need for emergency signalling

Due to DoT regulations, the above must be supplied/worn or NO RACE START

 

REGISTRATION NOTES:

  • Appropriate boat required for conditions, must have sufficient bouyancy if using Kayaks (eg air bags)
  • Skis recommended over kayaks for Full course.  Kayak users should use skirts to avoid swamping.
  • Competitors under 18 must have parent permission and must paddle with someone over 18. 
  • One team member must have competed in previous distance events (i.e. Avon, Marathons etc.) 
  • Thursday night registration close.  Due to catering late entries cannot be accepted.

 

FEES

  • $50.00 for Full course Race and Roast meat roll plus salads (Vegetarian option available)
  • $35.00 for Full course Race and NO Food
  • $45.00 for CITY LITE race and Roast meat roll plus salads (Vegetarian option available)
  • $30.00 for CITY LITE race and NO Food
  • Additional $20 fee for non PA members (ie you do not belong to a club or PA Australia) 
  • Supporters dinner ticket = $15 Adult, $10 Child 
  • Note: For dinner only, enter "Dinner Only" in the boat selection section, insert "No Partner" in the partner section and, in the payment section, select meal combination. If you need more, register again.

 

CLASS RULES 

  • Categories Full course: Open, Veteran (45+), Mixed, Relay Team, Master and Apprentice (one paddler must not have done the City Lights before - please indicate when prompted in entry)
  • Categories Short course (City Lite) - Open, Mixed, Veteran (45+)
  • Age applies at year end, Pair must both match age category or enter in “Open” • No Junior categories, juniors must race with experienced 18+ paddlers in doubles only. Participants must be 14+ on 08/3/2025

 

RACE TIMETABLE CITY LIGHTS (Full Course)

4.00 pm Registration Opens at Riverton (Note: No race entries at registration – must enter online) 

5.15 pm Race Briefing – All participants must be present 

5.45 pm Race Starts – slower teams first to depart, faster paddlers will depart after 6pm

8:20 pm First paddlers due at finish line 

9.30 pm Presentations and Prize Giving [will take place even if some racers not finished]
