Wharf To Wharf (W2W) One Mile Swim
Registration Cost is $50/ swimmer
One Mile Open Water Swim along the East River Shoreline
Swimmer Categories - the one mile swim will start in waves, based on the following categories. Water temperatures in August are high enough that wetsuits will not be necessary - but they are not prohibited.
PUFFERFISH uses swim aids/ swim fins/ flotation device. You're not a strong swimmer OR just want to relax in the water and will feel much more comfortable completing the one-mile distance if you use a swim aid, such as fins, a vest or even a floatie raft.
TUNA will not use swim aids. You know you can complete the one mile swim and will not be using any swim aid, including swim fins, just my swimsuit, cap & goggles.
YOUTH SWIMMERS are allowed to participate in this open water swim race. The event director will contact parents of a participant less that age 14 to confirm the correct category (Pufferfish vs Tuna) for the young swimmer.
The Wharf to Wharf Swim is a tribute to the late L. Wayne Hudgins who was a Mathews native, Williams Wharf enthusiast and long-time member of the Mathews Land Conservancy’s board (MLC owns & operates Williams Wharf Landing). Wayne’s son, Tim, now serves on the MLC's board of directors.
