MVMBA FAST LAPS is back and it's free!
Wednesday, 12 June 2024 weather/course permitting at John Bryan State Park, meet at the mountain bike parking area near the Gazebo. No rain date cuz we are scheduling FAST LAPS for every Wednesday in June to preview the 6hrs of John Bryan course! See www.facebook.com/groups/MVMBA for updates.
Register in webscorer pre-event (now with fully digital activity waiver!) and checkin starting at 5:30pm on event evening to verify Activity Release and Number Plate at the picnic pavilion near TMBA entrance. Permanent number plates may not yet be available but will be issued first registered/first plate starting from number 100. A digitally signed Activity Release (legible signature, verify event date, emergency contact - hopefully completed within WebScorer), Check-In and helmet required to participate. Under 18, release must be signed by parent/legal guardian. Limited on-site registration (via webscorer) may be available but is more challenging - late registrations may not be processed due to limited web access and personnel for manual entries (we are first going to give you the link to webscorer at the event, it's free to register early so just do it - we don't embarass any no-shows with a DNS).
Registering multiple riders from the same webscorer account? If you wish to register another participant or edit a registration from your account:
1) Stay Signed in
2) Select the "Event Registration Page" button 2nd from the top on the right on the webscorer event page
or go to /www.webscorer.com/register?pid=1&raceid=352042
3) Select Start new registration or edit registration as appropriate...
Many of the blanks will autofill when you start typing (email, emergency contact, ...).
FAST LAPS training ride starts at 6:30pm. This FAST LAPS will be wave start by category with a short double track or grass prologue into the Arboretum trail by the kiosk, then Arboretum clockwise to Abracadabra, Abracadabra to Great Scott, Great Scott to Frankenlight back to Great Scott finishing by the Gazebo. Depending upon volunteers, the short course will exit (at the rail fence, near trail marker 21) or turn around at the bench intersection (between trail marker 29-30, short cutting between 36-37). Really Short course (young kids only) will be the Arboretum loop. Please shout your bib number when approaching the finish line to help facilitate timing (currently bib # based).
Don't want to ride?
We really need help with timing - which is a great way to spectate and track the riders progress! This is as simple as cheering and spotting number plates and pushing a button a tablet every time a rider passes the lap line.
The future of these events is dependent upon keeping volunteers running it and the 3 people currently doing it need help - please volunteer to make it better!
Got time before or after FAST LAPS?
We also need help with processing check-ins (can ride FAST LAPS).
We could use help with setup, cheering/spotting number plates, course marshalling, riding sweep, results, podium awards, course tear down and packing up.
Volunteer signups (note that one person can sign up for more than one volunteer activity, we know cuz the 3 person race committe did all the jobs at FL #1 :s):
signup to volunteer (from a browser, not the Facebook app), https://tinyurl.com/MVMBA-FL-2volunteers
Donations also welcome and all go towards supporting MVMBA activities, see donate link at www.mvmba.bike
Current categories include M and F categories as follows,
Full course:
Advanced/Expert
Fatbike - 3.8" and larger tires (can select a higher class)
Masters 60+ (age at start of current year)
Sport - intermediate riders
High School - or fast juniors (if you are fast HS, move up categories!)
Recreational (no podiums)
Short Course (will exclude black diamond trails, like Hawk's Lair at MOMBA):
Beginners/Novices (includes novice HS riders)
Juniors - elementary thru middle school (too easy? join the HS category or higher!)
RecreationalSC (Short Course/no podiums)
Really Short Course - (~1.1 mile: all beginner trails, grass, and/or double track)
Kids (not up for the short course yet)
Striders/Balance Bikes (no pedals)
Overall top 3 M&F podiums may be awarded (Alpha Males and Alpha Female finishers may be excluded from category podiums). The MVMBA FAST LAPS committee reserves the right to 'graduate' riders to other classes.
We may evolve categories as we go depending upon numbers and demand - keep in mind this is for fun and to foster the mountain biking community. Don't like the start order/categories/format/timing/course/venue/day/registration process? - volunteer, join the race committee (email mvmbafastlaps@gmail.com) and/or move up classes to start you earlier! The race committee is mostly volunteers (and drafted family members) that would much rather be riding (or anything else for race committee family members that got dragged into it!) than doing this.
Email mvmbafastlaps@gmail.com for suggested improvements or to volunteer.
