8 HR MTB Relay 

 

The Ozzy 8 Relay is a race, a group ride, and bike festival all rolled into one.  The event is all about riding/hanging out with your friends, family and local riders, while also challenging yourself or team to complete as many laps as possible.  The event takes place over a 8 hour time frame on a 7 km loop course which starts and finishes in the field at Kinsmen Park.  The object is NOT to finish the course first, but to complete the greatest number of laps before the end of the event either solo or as part of a relay team.  This means you are never last and always riding with different people.

Categories: 
Solo – A personal challenge for one rider to complete as many laps as possibly in 8hrs
2 Person Relay Team – Two riders alternate laps, tag team style, to complete as many laps as possible in 8hrs. Each Rider must complete at least one lap. 


3-5 Person Relay Team (Open)– A team of up to 5 riders alternate laps, relay style, to complete as many laps as possible in 8hrs. Each rider must complete at least one lap.  Lap order may change at the team’s discretion. 


3-5 Person Relay Team (All Female) - Same as above, but all team members must be Female.

 

3-5 Person Relay Team (U13) - Same as above, but all team members must be ages 12 and under. 


Rules: 
*      To compete and qualify in a specific category, you must meet the category description and have each teammate complete at least one lap.  IE: team of 2 cannot enter 3-5 person category. 
•    Teams with the most laps completed after 8hrs win.  If teams have the same number of laps then whoever completed their last lap first wins. 
•    Laps completed after 6:00pm(8hr cutoff) will not count even if started before the cut-off
•    Only one team member can be officially on a lap at a time, but parents or teammates may ride together for encouragement or fun if they wish.  
•    Each team(solo included) will have a individual plate number.  So everyone on the same team has an unique number. Please confirm this prior to start of race. 
•    Riders will be required to slow down and pass in a safe manner. 
•    Headphones are prohibited on the course for safety reasons
•    FUN is the #1 priority

Cost is $40.00 for Blacksheep Members and $50.00 for non Members.

What to bring: 
•    Bike & Helmet is a good start
•    Folding Chair, Blanket, Screen Tent and anything else that you might want for hanging out/relaxing between laps (BBQ, Games, etc)
•    An aid station (snack table), including pizza will be provided, but plan on bringing additional food/nutrition.

•    8:30am-9:15am – Check-In/Plate Pickup
•    9:30am - Race Meeting
•    10:00am  Start of Ozzy 8
•    5:40pm – Course Closed, no new riders on course
•    6:00pm Last rider to count

Blacksheep Mountain Bike Club and its (their) directors, officers, employees, instructors, guides, agents, representatives, independent contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, sponsors, successors, insurers, insurance intermediary and assigns (all of whom are hereinafter referred as “the Releasees”) DEFINITION In this Release Agreement: the term "Biking" shall include all activities, services and use of facilities either provided by or arranged by the Releasees, including, but not limited to: orientation and instruction sessions; recreational activities undertaken during the event, tour; travel by bike; all travel either within or beyond the designated boundaries, including in the backcountry and on logging roads and trails. ASSUMPTION OF RISKS I am aware that Biking (inclusive of Road & Mountain Biking) involves many inherent risks, dangers and hazards, including but not limited to: broken, uneven or slippery pavement, traffic exposures, exposed rock, earth, ice or other natural objects; trees, tree wells, tree stumps, forest deadfall; holes and depressions on or beneath the trail or surface; variable and difficult weather conditions; changes or variations in the terrain which may create blind spots or areas of reduced visibility; streams and creeks; cliffs; crevasses; travel on back-country roads; snowcat roads, road-banks and cut-banks; impact or collision with other bikes and vehicles, becoming lost or separated from the guides or other participants; mechanical failure of bikes and related equipment; extreme and rapidly changing weather conditions; encounter with wildlife including bears; avalanches; the failure to operate a bike safely or within one's own ability; negligence of other bikers and other persons; AND NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE RELEASEES, INCLUDING THE FAILURE BY THE RELEASEES TO SAFEGUARD OR PROTECT ME FROM THE RISKS, DANGERS AND HAZARDS REFERRED TO ABOVE. Communication in the alpine terrain may be difficult, and in the event of an accident, rescue, medical treatment and evacuation may not be available or may be delayed. Alpine weather conditions may be extreme and can change rapidly and without warning. Photo/Media Use Release
I hereby grant and authorize Blacksheep Mountain Bike Club the right to take, edit, alter, copy, exhibit, publish, distribute and make use of any and all pictures or video taken of me to be used in and/or for legally promotional materials including, but not limited to, newsletters, flyers, posters, brochures, advertisements, fundraising letters, annual reports, press kits and submissions to journalists, websites, social networking sites and other print and digital communications, without payment or any other consideration. This authorization extends to all languages, media, formats and markets now known or hereafter devised. This authorization shall continue indefinitely, unless I otherwise revoke said authorization in writing. I understand and agree that these materials shall become the property of Blacksheep Mountain Bike Club and will not be returned. I hereby hold harmless, and release Blacksheep Mountain Bike Club from all liability, petitions, and causes of action which I, my heirs, representative, executors, administrators, or any other persons may make while acting on my behalf or on behalf of my estate.
