Event notes

We're Back!

The 66th Feilding Marathon takes place Saturday 7th November

Starting in 1955, the Feilding Marathon has been held every year since, making it one of the longest "runs" of any marathon worldwide (No. 9 or 10 on the all time list) and certainly the longest running event in the Southern Hemisphere.

Organised for many years by the Feilding Marathon Club and these days by Feilding Moa Harriers, who are themselves celebrating their 80th anniversary this year.

Unlike many of the corporately owned events in NZ these days, all the proceeds from the event go back into supporting grass-roots club activities including youth development, upgrade of facilities and equipment.

Most of the volunteers you see on course on the day are either Feilding Moa Harrier club members or from Feilding Athletic Club.

We look forward to giving you a very friendly welcome to Feilding whether you are a local or have travelled from far afield.

The Course

All entrants acknowledge they are aware that there are no road closures and they should take normal care while running or walking on the roads. In particular to not run/walk more than two abreast, and being prepared to move to single file (or even off the roadway) to avoid oncoming vehicles.

We have an approved Traffic Management Plan and a Health & Safety Plan to minimise risk to participants. This includes reduced speed limits at several sites and marshals at major intersections.

Minor side roads are not marshalled and participants are advised to take special care when crossing and be prepared to give way as and when required to vehicles.

All events follow the same route, with Turnarounds for each point clearly signposted and Marshalled.

The start is in the fields of Timona Park, then onto the footpath on the right-hand-side of Simon St and then Kimbolton Rd for the first 1.6km. (The first km Mark is painted on the Footpath, so if on the road you will miss it!)

At the first road crossing (kimbolton Rd, at approximately 1.6km) you must only cross BETWEEN the two Stop/Go marshalls

Once out of town, where no footpath exists, run/walk on the RIGHT side of the road so you can clearly see approaching traffic.

Marathon: 3km, 7.5, 12, 16 21 and in reverse with final drinks at 39km.
Half marathon and 10km: 7.5, 14k, 18k (7k for 10k'ers)

There will be a dedicated first aid tent at the Finish line for those needing a bit of T&C.
