THE 2020 RACE HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO COVID-19, IF YOU WISH TO CONTRIBUTE TO SVS PTSA TO BENEFIT THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR, WE WELCOME YOUR DONATIONS AND THANK YOU.

After the town parade, this 4th of July run is on the Talkeetna Lakes Park Trail System, a boreal forest that circumnavigates natural lakes. A variety of Alaskan wildlife, such as loons & other bird life are seen here. Both distances have viewpoints of the Alaska Range.

The race start & end is at the Whigmi Road Trailhead, located 3.5 miles from downtown Talkeetna. The race is on maintained unpaved trails. Both distances are loops. 5K has moderate hills & wide grass trail, 10K is both wide grass & single track dirt hiking trail, some steeper hills. This race is timed. Porta-potties will be at the start/finish area.

RACE SAFETY: Participants 11 or younger MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult.
SAME DAY REGISTRATION & BIB PICK UP: Talkeetna Downtown Park from 9:00 am- 11:00. At the start: Whigmi Trailhead, from 1:00 PM-1:45 PM
START TIMES: 10K: 2:00 PM, 5K: 2:15 PM
COOKIE DASH FOR YOUNGSTERS: 10 AM at the Talkeetna Public Library - arrive at 9:30
AID STATIONS: One for each distance, and water & food at the finish.
AWARDS & FINISH: Awards following the race, at Whigmi trailhead - Overall top three finishers of each distance & category: Youth, Junior, Adult, Master
PARKING: Talkeetna Spur Road mile marker 10.5, at DOT gravel pit, walk a short distance to starting line. The gravel pit is between the Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe & Whigmi Road. Bicycle parking is available at the starting area.

All race helpers & organizers are volunteers. All proceeds benefit Susitna Valley School Parent Teacher Student Association which serves our local students in grades 6-12. SVS is a Title 1 School. The PTSA provides needed support to students. Ongoing programs of support are; college scholarships, sports, art club, free healthy foods provided daily, teacher classroom mini-grants, afterschool act
