The Event

This event runs in conjunction with the Annual Gwynn's Island Festival in late June. In Hawaiian, Kukini means "swift runner or messenger, employed by old chiefs, with a premium on their speed" - come enjoy the Island-themed event around Mathews County Virginia's Gwynn's Island!

The Cause

As our club's biggest fundraiser, the proceeds for this event enable us to offer support for local organizations and events. Our co-organizers: Mathews Family YMCA and Gwynn's Island Civic League, will receive half of the day's intake. VTTR sponsored the Mathews Market Days 5k, and in 2017 joined VDOT Adopt-A-Highway program and is keeping a section of our local roadways trash-free (a busy 2-mile section on Rte 14)!

The Courses

You will enjoy this FAST, FLAT course - with 8k & 5k options - along the island coast with overlooks of Chesapeake Bay along the way. Gwynn's Island is one of Virginia's little-known gems: a welcoming community, scenic views, and full of history. Stick around after the race and enjoy the Annual Gwynn's Island Festival. This will be a day you won't forget and will want to enjoy year after year!

The Cost

The cost for 8k & 5k races is the same: $25 for pre-registration & $30 on race day. The Fun Run (just over a mile) is still FREE.
