2019 WWR #2 Drain Race

The 2nd of 6 races for the 2019 Wild Water Season - Sunday, June 16, 2019.

Location: Hester Park, Spencer Road Langford
Registration: 08:00-08:30am
Briefing 08:45am
Race start 09:30am

Course:

This is a flatwater course, designed to test the paddlers ability to manoeuvre the kayak through narrow sections of river with low hanging trees and slight current. This is a great opportunity for new paddlers who would like to test their boat handling ability before entering the races with greater water flow later in the season.

The race is open to all boats, with the Championship only open to boats classed as wildwater/downriver kayaks as per ICF regulations. These include overall length of no more than 4.5m, with no rudder (or with their rudder tied up)

Sundries Note (Boats not classed wildwater/downriver kayaks)
For those entering in the sundries category, this race is only open to those who are in competition type boats. This is a timed individual event, where Sundry competitors will receive a timed result and ranking, but will not be awarded season points towards the WildWater Championship

A car shuffle is not required, with paddlers making their way upstream prior to race start
The course may change due to water levels and paddlers will be kept informed of any changes.

Safety: Helmets & PFD’s are compulsory. Additional Buoyancy recommended

Due to the course being held in wildwater conditions, it is necessary for all paddlers to wear helmets and PFD’s. It is also recommended for all paddlers to have grab loops on their boats to assist rescue and to have floats/buoyancy inside their boats to ensure boats do not fill with water in the case of a capsize. All paddlers will require cockpit skirts with appropriate grab loop for ease of escape from a capsized boat.
