WELCOME MESSAGE

Dear Racers,

Welcome to the 2026 Gunnar Hagen Classic Ski Race.  This is the 46th Gunnar Hagen Classic Ski Race.  For most of us, this will be the first race of 2026.  A good time to show up and see how we are doing, after many of us have watched the Tour de Ski and been inspired by those amazing skiers.

Gunnar Hagen was an immigrant from Norway and a founding member of the Kongsberger Ski Club.  He was instrumental in building our cabin and ski jump.  He was a world class ski jumper and an amazing classic cross country ski racer.  He was a kind man.  He helped make the Kongsbergers the club we are now.  Without Gunnar, in all likelihood we would not have the ski trails which we enjoy today.

As usual, the snow conditions may be iffy for the race.  So be prepared.  Skin skis always work, if you don’t want to mess around with wax.  If we have decent snow, we will run this race on our usual course.  If the snow is indecent, we will have some modifications.  So come join us on January 18th to ski in the 30 km or 7.5 km classic race.

All skiers - immigrants (like Gunnar), born here citizens, naturalized citizens (like Rune - our previous decades-long president), green card holders (like Augustina, our chief timer),  asylum seekers, skiers of all races, ethnicities, and religions - all are welcome.  Let's open our hearts to all, and ski our very best.

Welcome to 2026 ski racing!

Spider Burbank, Race Director

This includes waxes that are Low Fluoro, High Fluoro, or pure fluoro (powders, blocks and liquids) This also includes fluorinated kick waxes and klisters.
