REMINDER FOR RIDERS:
Group ride participajnts must have previously attended an OBC Group Riding Clinic (GRC).
https://ottawabicycleclub.ca/group-riding-clinics/
This year, starting with the April 20th ride, the GRCs will be scheduled coincident with Sunday rides for the first several weeks of the season; that is, starting from the same place at the same time.
Is your bike ship-shape? Are you carrying basic tools and equipment? Be sure all the critical components -- brakes, drive train; tires -- are in good shape and thus ensure that your bike won't be inclined to leave you in tears at the side of the road. On all club rides (in fact, whenever you ride), please carry, minimally, a spare tube, tire levers, air pump (or equivalents for tubeless). Having bright, day-time running lights (front & back) is also a really good idea to improve your visibility to other road users.
Keep an eye out for trash, rocks, sand, gravel, etc. on the roads, especially rounding corners. It's unlikely that the street sweepers will be out tout de suite, so Spring requires special attention to the road surface.
On to the ride...
Starting from the Sportsplex, we'll be looping to the south and the west to such renowned vacation destinations as Richmond, Stittsville, Barrhaven, Munster, and Burritt's Rapids
Bonne route!
Routes:
A Ride : 123kmManotick-Kars-Oxford Mills-Osgoode-Kanata
A strange figure 8, with the crossover point on Roger Stevens Drive. Some very pleasant new segments in the Kemptville area were scouted in the Fall. Various places to stop for coffee and comfort. There's a bakery on the route in Kemptville.
B Ride : 93km Manotick-Becketts Landing-Richmond-Stittsville
Head south, almost to Kemptville, then loop clockwise and return through Richmond and Stittsville. Suggest coffee and comfort at the Ultramar on Roger Stevens and/or later in Richmond. There's not much between those spots.
C Ride : 75km Stittsville-Munster-Richmond-Barrhaven
A counter-clockwise loop. While the As and Bs head south, Cs and Ds head west. A simple loop out past Stittsville, then some lovely roads back to your coffee and comfort stop in Richmond. Loop around through Manotick (more coffee?) to Barrhaven. Note the re-route to avoid the corner of Cambrian and Longfields; that roundabout is not bike-friendly.
D Ride : 47km Stittsville-Corkstown
A clockwise loop to Stittsville -- where the route takes you to Equator Coffee -- then crossing the Queensway to return via Corkstown Rd and Cedarview Rd. Note the alternative routing after crossing under March Rd on the return. Rather than following Corkstown Rd, up-and-over, the ride leader may choose to stay on the pathway all the way to Moodie Dr, at which point you reconnect with the route as drawn.
*Group composition will depend on having a Ride Leader, and interest for specific Distance/Speed combinations, as determined by who shows up at the start point.
