Paddled a Fenn Elite Double with my best buddy Seth. 1st time this season. We had good speed at the start but faded as the race progressed and watched Marshall and Curtis pull away. We were able to put "The Hurt" on Chris D. who was riding our wash into the finish. We would pulled ahead, he would grind his way back on, then we would pull ahead. Kinda fun in a sick masochistic way. Sorry Chris. Just before entering Deep Cove Marshall and Curtis were about 100 metre ahead and Seth, "Let's go for it and catch them!!!" So I said " I hate to break it to you son, but it ain't gonna happen!"

A very civilized start, made for a large group. Shane and Dion held the pace at about 12.5 km/hr. Slowly people started to drop off the back. With frequent motor boat wash rides Dion re-joined the lead group. Finally it was myself, Ken Stanick and Shane in the lead. From Raccoon to Jug we were averaging 13.5 km/hr. Then I fell off the pace about 1/3 of the way over from Jug to Deep Cove. The others weren't far behind and Daryl caught and passed me at the finish. Good Clean Fun

I almost gave up at the start. Was still feeling tired from US Surf Ski Champs. I backed off the pace a bit and then jumped on the wave of Curtis and Marshall's double. Got re-charged and managed to catch up to Shane. The mandator remount at Hamber Island helped me get some ground on Jeff R. and I went out into the flood current for some additional speed. I was hitting 14 km/hr. At Jug another remount and the combination of paddling hard but most of Shane waiting for me, THANKS Shane. I caught up to the big guy and held on while he pulled me to the finish. I saw Jim trying to jump on but then he was gone. Shane dropped me at the finish.

It was a tough race. Current played a big roll...staying out of it. I managed to create a gap between myself and Ken Stanick by following the shoreline and staying out of the current. Ken however caught me by Point Blunt. I managed to catch a great runner and created another gap. I started to push and take some chances as I new he would be chasing hard. Then I dumped! Losing a minute in my remount. Ken beat me by 30-ish seconds and avoided a years worth of gloating. I missed out on top 5 Senior Masters by 1 minute. Doh!! Must train harder for next year. Drink more milk

Decided that killing myself to stay with the lead group a 4 days from US Surf Ski Champs wasn't such a good idea so I backed off and was domestic for jodi
