IRWIN RACE STATEMENT:

Racers, friends, and the ski mountaineering race community,

After several days of patiently awaiting weather forecasts and praying for snow every waking minute, it is with a heavy heart that the Irwin Guides Ski Mountaineering Race is cancelled.

Issued the following statement:


A lot of uncertainty with the storm and timing of the storm and the most recent weather report this morning is not looking super impressive, the discussion looks a little better with a possible 4-8” but we need at least a foot of settled snow which means a 16-18” storm. Irwin Guides believe's the greater potential is for Monday into Mid week. Thoughts are that if the race was held on Sunday it will not make much difference from Saturday at this point. We are close but all parties involved do not feel it is worth the risk of injury to racers and to guides having to respond. We hate to say it but:

It’s a NO GO.




Full refunds will be given within 3(three) weeks as payments are processed through registration and reversed back to each registered racer.

The 2015 Irwin Lodge Race date is Saturday, December 12th. No place gets early snow like the Elk Mountains so get ready to get your December Race on.

This event is on an all-backcountry course based out of the spectacular Irwin Lodge outside of Crested Butte. Due to the remote nature of this course (snowcat or snowmobile access only) registration will be capped – so get on it! For info on the Irwin Lodge even click here: Irwin.
