2024 WWR #4 D-Rain Race

The 4th of 8 races for the 2024 Wild Water Season - Sunday, June 23, 2024.

Location:  Hester Park, Spencer Road Langford

Registration:  08:30am-09:00am

Briefing:  09:15am

Race start:  10:00am

Course:  Starting and finishing at Hester Park, paddlers make their way upstream to the starting point (drain) with the return leg being the race.

Transport:  A car shuffle is not required

Safety:  Due to hazards and obstacles along the course, it is compulsory for all paddlers to wear helmets and PFD’s. Each competitor should also have a whistle attached to their PFD for emergency situations.

It is also recommended for all paddlers to have grab loops on their boats to assist rescue and for kayaks to have floats/buoyancy inside their boats to ensure boats do not fill with water in the case of a capsize. All kayak paddlers will require cockpit skirts with appropriate grab loop for ease of escape from a capsized boat.

Whilst we welcome paddlers of all skill levels, it is expected that competitors can self assess personal risk based on their own competency and the section of river and it's associated levels. The race organisers and safety officials reserve the right to withdraw any competitor at any stage of the event if deemed necessary to ensure the competitors personal safety.

This is a flatwater course, designed to test the paddlers ability to manoeuvre the kayak through narrow sections of river with low hanging trees and a slight current. This is a great opportunity for new paddlers who would like to test their boat handling ability before entering the races with greater water flow later in the season.

The race is open to all boats, with the Championship only open to boats classed as wildwater/downriver kayaks as per ICF regulations. These include overall length of no more than 4.5m, with no rudder (or with their rudder tied up)

Sundries Note (Boats not classed wildwater/downriver kayaks)

For those entering in the 2024 Sundries Series, you are eligible to race in non-WildWater/downriver boats only where you are in a competition type boat. Playboat and recreational type craft are not permitted to race.

This is a timed individual event, where Sundry competitors will receive a timed result and ranking, but will not be awarded season points towards the WildWater Championship.
