Historic Owai 5 Miler race returns on 13th November 2022






Welcome to the Owairaka Athletics 5 Miler event 2022.

Steeped in tradition, this is possibly the only remaining 5-Miler distance race in New Zealand. This event is an historic race with roots back to 1962. The first name on the Bill Baillie Trophy was Ivan Keats who ran a 2:18 marathon which earned him a run at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Since then there have been an impressive list of great runners to have adorned the trophy- J.Walker. B.Baillie, A.B.Magee. R.Maddaford. J.Julian. K.Ryan. D.Warrander. H.Carson. J.Jackson.

The Pat Munro Cup awarded to the fastest woman on the day is a newer trophy held from 2019 and 2020 by Bethany Bromfield.

2020 Male winner Cameron Graves created history in smashing the long standing 25 minutes time barrier, finishing in a blistering 24:03. Cameron was fresh from winning the Auckland Half Marathon just 2 weeks earlier.

The race will take place at Lovelock Track Mt Roskill. There are cash prizes for 1st male/ female overall, 1st masters male/ female, and also a $250 bonus for the first male under 25 minutes, and female under 28 minutes.



Along with the 5 Miler distance ($30 entry), there is also a Kids 2.5km ($10 entry), event, so all the family can take part on the day! Children under 16 years as at 31 December 2022 are charged $10 for any distance.

8:50am- Race Safety Briefing
9:00am- 5 Miler Race Start
10:15am 2.5km Kids dash
11:00am- Prize giving
