Cypress Ski Mountaineering Race 2019 #3

The Cypress Mountain Ski Mountaineering race is an opportunity to test your skills and gear in a challenging SkiMo course on the Nordic trails at Hollyburn. All participants must have a valid season pass or Nordic trail ticket for the race day; this is separate from the race entry fee and must be purchased at the Nordic ticket window before proceeding to the Lodge. All participants must sign a Cypress Mountain Special Event waiver in the Lodge; any participant under 19 years MUST have a Parent/Guardian sign the waiver. Please arrive by 18:30 at the Hollyburn Lodge for waivers, equipment inspection and pre-race talk.

The course will start at the Hollyburn Lodge, proceed up Telemark to the Upper Warming Hut, east along Powerline, down through Brothers Pass to Russel, boot pack up Russel, ski back through Brothers Canyon West, down Lower Mobratten and down to West Lake Loop. Up the big climb to the Viewpoint and finally up Grand National back to the Lodge. There will be a short course that cuts off the West Lake Loop.

Full SkiMo race equipment is required. Alpine touring (lightweight and heavy metal), splitboard or Telemark gear is required. Nordic gear is not allowed. This includes a transmitting avalanche beacon, shovel and probe, helmet and turned on bright headlight.

This will be an interval start race to avoid congestion on Telemark during the initial ascent. The start will be skins on, with skins off at the Upper Warming Hut, the boot pack up Russel, skins on for West Lake climb and Grand National. These technique changes are on the honour system as there will not be course marshals in those areas.

There are no prizes for the winners other than personal glory, but there are draw prizes for athletes if your name is pulled from the hat.
