Race notes
38 swimmers at the start and 28 finished (a 73.6 % success rate). Headwinds going from 10 - 21 mph made the finish for surviving swimmers and crew a welcomed relief (and more than a few uttered profanities). Water temp was a perfect 66 - 71 F but the wind and duration of the swim was chilling. Swimmers underestimated the chilling effect a long swim has and how cold they would be at the finish. The dry bags were typically not packed with enough warm clothes, wool hat, gloves, parka, wool socks . . . don't be fooled the projected "hot" Arizona air temperature in May.
